The Top 50 Canada Spas of 2020
Local escapes, regional tourism, and less-populated destinations prove most popular, as voted by Spas of America.
Elora, Ontario – Although Canadian spa and wellness consumers were restricted from travelling last year, it hasn’t stopped people from looking and planning future travel. The spa and wellness travel website Spas of America has unveiled its annual list of the Top 50 favourite spas in Canada. The annual ranking is based on consumer preferences on its website throughout the year.
Southern Ontario’s Elora Mill Hotel & Spa was the No. 1 spa and wellness destination. Second place went to Vancouver Island’s Grotto Spa, Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort. Three Ontario spas rounded out the top five: The Spa at White Oaks Resort, Niagara-on-the-Lake; Toronto’s Miraj Hammam Spa; and Collingwood’s Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain.
“2020 was a difficult year for the Canadian spa and wellness industry,” says Spas of America president Craig Oliver. “Many Canadian spas have been forced to close, reduce staff and operate at a reduced capacity. On the bright side, we are seeing strong demand building for consumers who are searching for relaxation, mental health, wellness and escape. We see Canadian spa and wellness experiences playing an important role in the year ahead.”
Canadians were restricted in their travel – and in turn looked to local escapes, regional tourism and less-populated destinations. British Columbia and Ontario each had 16 spas in the Top 50 Canada Spas of 2020, Alberta had nine spas, Quebec had six spas, and Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan each had one spa.
“We are honoured to have been chosen for this distinction. After such an emotionally and mentally challenging year, I think we are all realizing how very important it is to really be in touch with our bodies, our senses and nature. We are so proud to perch on top of the stunning Elora Gorge and even more proud of our team for their understanding of the profound and positive impact that our spa has the ability to give.” – Jocelyn Maurice, Managing Partner.
